Old Route 5

Route 5 is a Federal highway which once was a heavily traveled north/south traffic road through New England, extending from Route 1 in New Haven, Connecticut, to the Canadian border in Vermont. Progress and super highways have changed all that. Old Route 5 has now become a quiet, almost forgotten, blacktop country road as it winds its way through the villages and towns of New England. This painting (Old Route 5) depicts what is left today of an old country store and gas station, that once thrived along that road in Whately, Massachusetts.
