Artist's Statement
I was born and grew up in coastal New England. This turned out to be the major influence and inspiration for
my art, and for this I shall ever be grateful. I write and I paint and this is what I've always loved to do.
As a child, a young man and now a salty old codger, this passion, thank God, has never wavered.
As for my paintings, they are based on my own emotional response to subjects and scenes that please me. They
don't have any hidden meanings and are not intended to make any political or sociological statements. I am
quite simply a painter of pictures and I suppose somewhat of a romantic. I like the seashore, old barns,
country roads, back porches and anything else that triggers a pleasant memory or bit of nostalgia. Design,
color and light are the primary considerations in my work. The ultimate goal of course is to please my
audience (for where would we artists be without them) by creating paintings that are evocative and a
continuing pleasure to look at. If I have to some extent accomplished that - only then do they become a true
work of art.
